John C. Zaher earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History (dual major) from Stony Brook University in 1991, achieving a 3.71 G.P.A. He then earned his Juris Doctor from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 1998, graduating cum laude. In 2000, he earned a Master’s in Political Science with a concentration in Public Policy in 2000, graduating with a 3.87 G.P.A.

With a solid educational background, extensive governmental and political experience, John began teaching political science courses at Suffolk County Community College, including United States National Government & Politics and State & Local Politics, beginning with the Spring 2002 semester. His courses placed an emphasis on learning about governmental structures and political theory through current events.

While John’s professional and educational experiences have provided a strong background for teaching political science, his passion has always been history. Of particular interest is United States Revolutionary War history and the early governments of the United States. He feels that this period encompasses both history and the political science that set the foundation for the United States, allowing him to continuously nurture his thirst for knowledge and historical perspective. From 2002 to 2005, he taught United States and World History at Nassau County Community College, including United States History to 1865, United States History from 1865 to 1945, United States History Since 1945, and World History Since 1945.

In addition to teaching history and political science, John taught Business Law I for two semesters at New York Institute of Technology.

While family and business obligations gradually drew John out of the classroom, he looks forward to returning to teaching students about the history of their country and the foundations of their national and local political systems in the years to come.
